Pagodas

Pagodas are independent solid structures with oriental influence and are commonly built from wood. The design includes vertical pillars or posts supporting a solid roof construction with screened sides. This provides full protection from rainfall and the sun, while the garden can still be enjoyed.

Permanent Gazebos

Permanent Gazebos are similar structures to pagodas, having a covered roof, solid base and the option of screened sides but gazebos are often octagonal in shape and have western origins leading to a more straight-forward design. Gazebos are another great solution for people needing a covered area for entertaining in the garden.

Pavilions

A pavilion is similar in structure to a gazebo featuring a solid roof, but pavilions have open sides and do not have a built-in floor. Pavilions are usually rectangular and are built to cover over an existing hard base.

Pergolas

Pergolas are standalone structures, similar to pagodas, but have an open or slatted roof, forming an ideal frame for creepers and hanging plants to grow, offering shade from the midday sun. This is a great way to create height within your garden and add a feature structure to party beneath. When built in combination with a new patio you get an eye-catching terrace and shaded seating area. When built over a path, pergolas form a stunning walkway.

Open roof designs offer only partial cover from weather conditions. If you live in an area with high rainfall or changing weather conditions it is worth noting a slatted roof will not protect from rainfall or direct sunlight.
